A Sociological study of family planning and control fertility rate through Government Policy

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the awareness related to family planning among pregnant females declaring to the antenatal clinic of Federal Medical Center, hold, and onto state, Nigeria. Methodology: The study was directed between December, 2007 and February, 2008 at the antenatal clinic of the hospital. Ethical authorization was attained from the Ethical Review Committee of the hospital preceding to commencement of the study. The data gathered from the respondents with the assistance of pre-tested semi-structured survey questionnaire which involves the bio-data, experience, and the source of getting data about family planning. Other information gathered were reasoning for family planning as well as recognition about various methods of family planning. The information obtained with the help of questionnaire was collated, and examined with SPSS version 12.0.1. Results: Approximately 89% of respondents were aware of family planning. While, majority of the respondents about 47.2% get information about family planning through health workers, although 21(23.6%) acknowledged the information via social media. Most of the defendants almost (74%) knew about condom. The degree of education automatically afflicted the awareness of family planning with a p value about 0.07. Conclusion: Many respondents were known of family planning. The media should play a vital role in developing awareness among the individuals related to family planning
