Abstract

In Pakistan, empowerment of women was always remaining a most important issue of debate between the media, state machinery and the civil society due to its different connotations and proportions. The study focuses to evaluate about how much along with many other agents of modernization (just like, media, civil society, and state legislation), the education of female plays a primary role in transforming by tradition conceived passive role of the women of Punjab into persons, whose who have potential are completely realized. Even though, in relationship with male and female literacy rate and labor force percentages have been unsatisfactory in Pakistan. However, some enhancement can be witnessed, was depending on the location by geographically. The study, throughout remain a survey questionnaire and was focused on group debate that was targeting undergraduate female students of Punjab university, it was observed that by the comparison with uneducated women, educated and professional women are not only aggravate but also ready to deal with different issues related to life, by the ranging from fitness to monetary needs. My results from qualitative and quantitative data examination additional imply that in spite of gaining education and professional knowledge a bulk of women are not totally free in their decisions related to basic personal issues of life like divorce, marriage, mobility and claims over ancestral heritage. My research results are indicating different reasons for this lacuna. Firstly, the issues related to old centuries biased socio-cultural practices, which men don’t like, impound, inspect and identify the roles of women in society. Secondly, misconception of religion by accepted view, overlooking the related meaning from Quranic verses. These civilizing practices and religious orientations are two different domains; though, in the society of Pakistani over a period of time, these unique realms were remained overlapped in different ways that have been remaining difficult to unscramble, for common persons. My research also concludes that there is a requirement to change the mind-set of the general society by effective education, mass media campaigns (print, social and electronic), and the support of civil society in order for culture to understand the value of the education women with an approval of their equal rights in the decisions of their lives, manifesting the reality of women’s empowerment.
